ABI's PC-based Micro Universal EPROM Emulator
/ ROM Emulator System (µU-REM) is aimed at a broad range of ROM
based programs and data including embedded systems, BIOS, video games,
robotics, printer drivers, graphics controllers, postscript interpreters,
character font libraries, and other ROM based applications. The emulator
is used during program and data development stages to eliminate the
frustration of repeated EPROM burn-erase cycles. The emulator easily
plugs in place of the ROM through the emulator's target adapter. Both
professionals and novice program developers will find the µU-REM
a valuable tool. Our Basic System comes complete with target adapters
to emulate all popular 8 and 16 bit ROM's (EPROM, PROM, FLASH,
EEPROM) with nothing more to buy.
The major differentiators of the µU-REM are download time, expandability,
and capacity. It takes less than two seconds to download a 1-MByte program
through a dedicated interface card rather than the slower parallel port
or serial port used by other PC-based emulators. Our open-ended target
interface design can easily accommodate special adapters to plug directly
in place of ROM cartridges or other requirements. When the need for
larger emulation space arises, simply add additional memory to the existing
memory card (up to 8-MBytes per unit), an additional memory card,
or combine multiple units.
The µU-REM includes software, an 8 bit ISA interface card (XT
or better), a desktop unit with portable plug-in memory card, and adapters
for 8 & 16 bit ROM devices. The software provides: instantaneous
viewing and editing of any address range or individual bytes, modification
and monitoring of I/O lines, verification of data during downloads and
uploads, and automatic splitting of 16/32/64 bit files. µU-REM
supports 8 & 16 bit data widths (2716, 27C512, 27C800, 27C4096...)
with capacity to 8-Mbytes (64-Mbits). Two memory card types are available:
the basic card comes with 256-KBytes (2-Mbits) of RAM and can be expanded
in 256-KByte increments to 2-Mbytes (16-Mbits), the higher capacity
card comes with 1-MBytes (8-Mbits) of RAM and can be expanded in 1-MByte
increments to 8-MBytes. The µU-REM can be configured for demanding
high end applications as well as smaller emulation requirements.
